Project to modernize the waste collection and management system in the Greater Nokoué area

The project’s aims to provide a sustainable solution to the urban sanitation issue in order to improve public health conditions, the population’ well-being and to reduce the negative impact of the waste proliferation on the environment. The project intends to develop its actions in a sustainable way.

Impacts and results

Total land surface to be cleaned per year: 799,173,663 in 2021 for 889,635,084 m2 expected at the end of 2022;

Number of linear meters of sanitation facilities cleaned : 2,054,289 in 2021 for 2,343,642 ml expected by the end of 2022;

More than 4,000 direct jobs created over the 2019-2021 period;

Strong decrease of floods in the targeted cities (Cotonou, Abomey-Calavi, Sèmè-Podji, Ouidah, Porto-Novo).

385,000 families benefited from the project during the 2019-2021 period and 427,000 families are expected to benefit by the end of 2022 in the municipalities of Cotonou, Abomey-Calavi, Sèmè-Podji, Ouidah, Porto-Novo.
